Sanitation and Waste workers

Many of us don't realize the valuable service sanitation employees provide until we encounter clogged, dirty, or locked toilets, overflowing septic tanks, or sewage-tainted beaches. A dependable service that, all too frequently, sacrifices the employees' health, safety, and dignity. They continue to be uncounted, neglected, and isolated while living in circumstances that put them at risk for fatal toxic gas poisoning and pit collapses as well as crippling infections and other injuries. The Untold Stories of Sanitation and Waste Workers is a campaign that WaterAid, the Embassy of Sweden, and The Daily Star have initiated in an effort to safeguard sanitation and waste workers from occupational hazards by ensuring appropriate health, hygiene, and safety measures. The campaign's goal is to draw attention to the occupational risks and realities of living that sanitation and waste employees experience on a daily basis.
